Do Good Challenge

About

Big Friend Little Friend is encouraging you to Do Good!

There are so many ways that the Mitchell community has already embraced this motto while adapting to the coronavirus. Now, Big Friend Little Friend wants you to accept the challenge and #DoGood for a friend, family member, neighbor, co-worker, local business, essential worker, or someone you care about. (All while observing social distancing practices!)

How to Participate

Step 1:

Purchase your DoGood t-shirt! There are nine different t-shirt colors available, all in youth and adult sizes. Each shirt costs $18-20, depending on the size. Scroll down to view the t-shirts or click the "Purchase a T-shirt" button. T-shirt orders are due May 15.

The money raised from the t-shirts will be used to recruit, screen, and train new mentors, so that all Little Friends can have a friend and role model. Big Friend Little Friend currently has more than fifteen Little Friends that are waiting to be matched with a mentor. Thanks for your help!

Note: Free delivery is available for Mitchell orders. You can also opt to have your t-shirt mailed.

Step 2:

Determine your “DoGood” act. Choose from the list of activities provided below or think of your own! Please ensure your “DoGood” activity is following social distancing measures to keep you and other community members healthy.

Step 3:

Challenge three other people to participate in the Do Good Challenge! Encourage friends and family to purchase their own t-shirts and start planning their "DoGood" activity.

Step 4: May 29-31

Participate in the Do Good weekend: complete your "DoGood" act while wearing your t-shirt! Tell BFLF about your act of kindness on Facebook or Instagram. Tag Big Friend Little Friend of the Mitchell Area and use #BFLFDoGoodChallenge.

BFLF's "Do Good" Act

BFLF is proud to be a member of the Mitchell community and wants to give back!

Each person that submits an order can enter the name of one essential worker into a drawing to receive a gift card from a local business. BFLF will give away one $10 gift card for every 50 t-shirts sold.

Do Good Activity Ideas

Here are a few “Do Good” activities inspired by local and global acts of kindness:
  • Compile a week’s worth of tried and true recipes. Email the recipes and associated grocery list to friends and family.

  • Donate cards to a nursing home.

  • Make a hopscotch/activities course using chalk for your neighborhood.

  • Purchase a gift card from a small business.

  • Send a graduating high school or college senior a letter to celebrate their accomplishment.

  • Make and donate masks.

  • Create your Top 10 books list to share with others.

  • Make a “Thank you” letter or gift for your mail person or delivery driver.

  • Complete errands for older neighbors.

  • Order a treat for a friend (coffee, donuts, cupcakes, ice cream, cotton candy, popcorn).

  • Contact your loved ones’ nursing home to ask if there is a social-distancing approved way for you to visit with them.

  • Create a “fancy dinner” for your kids. Wear dress clothes, cook a nice meal, and eat together without distractions (no TV, phones, etc.).

  • Leave a generous tip for a delivery driver.

  • Call friends you haven’t talked to in a while.

  • Donate to a non-profit.

  • Commission a work of art from a local artist.

  • Gather gently-used children’s books from your home that you are no longer using. Contact a local teacher about donating the books to a classroom library after the pandemic. Don’t have children’s books? Donate novels to a local library.

  • Help your child write an end of the year “Thank you” letter to his/her teacher.

  • Buy a subscription to your local paper.

  • Write letters of gratitude to people in your life.

  • Go through your closet and find slightly used clothing to donate. Wash the clothing and drop off the items once the pandemic is over.

  • Write positive messages on signs. Post them in your windows at home.
