Memorial Weekend in Mitchell Event Transferred from Imagine Guild to Big Friend Little Friend

(Mitchell, SD – January 31, 2020): For 18 years, the Imagine Guild has provided the Mitchell community with the Memorial Weekend in Mitchell event. Hosted the Saturday before Memorial Day, the event includes a BBQ cook-off competition, bean bag tournament, car show, poker run, kids tractor pull, and inflatables. Money raised from these events was donated by the Imagine Guild to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Because of the community’s support, the Imagine Guild has been able to donate over $250,000 to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation for research to find a cure in the last 18 years.

“Over that time, The Board of The Imagine Guild has been blessed with many dedicated community members that have served in a variety of positions. Many Mitchell and area businesses also donated financial contributions, goods and services to make Memorial Weekend in Mitchell an annual success.  Our Board wants to thank them, the Mitchell community and the surrounding area communities for their attendance and support,” said John Janssen, Imagine Guild President. “It is support from all of you that makes this event an annual success. We ask that you continue to support Big Friend Little Friend as we pass the baton to this local, worthwhile family event.”

Big Friend Little Friend will host the event on May 23, 2020 with guidance from the Imagine Guild. Event activities will remain the same. Money raised from the event will now support Big Friend Little Friend and their four mentoring programs: community-based mentoring, school-based mentoring, Mentor Mom, and South Dakota Youth Hunting Adventures.

“Big Friend Little Friend is excited about the opportunity to continue the Memorial Weekend in Mitchell event” said Jean Haley, Big Friend Little Friend Executive Director. “We invite everyone to come downtown on May 23rd to help us celebrate Memorial Day and kick off the summer, with this fun, family event!”

Jamie Hajek, Big Friend Little Friend Board President shared the sentiment by Haley. “Memorial Weekend and Big Friend Little Friend of the Mitchell Area are a natural fit for each other, as this is a family friendly event with something for everyone,” said Hajek. “We also appreciate all of the work the Image Guild team has put into growing this event over the years, and we look forward to building on the past success of Memorial Weekend in Mitchell.”
